How We Raise Our Puppies
Raising a great family companion starts long before go-home day. At Great Basin Miniature Schnauzers in Nevada, our puppies are raised with purpose from their earliest days—building confidence, experiencing everyday life, and developing the foundations that will help them transition into their new homes.
Our goal is simple: to raise healthy, confident, well-prepared puppies who are ready to become part of your family.
A Head Start Before Your Puppy Comes Home
We don’t wait until eight weeks to begin preparing our puppies for family life. As they grow, our puppies are gradually introduced to age-appropriate crate and potty training, regular routines, grooming, handling, and everyday experiences. Our goal isn’t to send you home with a puppy who has experienced nothing outside of the litter—we want your puppy to already have a foundation you can continue building on.

The result: a puppy who has already begun learning what life in a family home feels like.
Raised in Real Life
Our puppies are raised as part of our home and farm, surrounded by the everyday sights, sounds, and activity of life at Great Basin. Our adult dogs live together as a pack and enjoy long daily walks, while our puppies receive purposeful handling, enrichment, and age-appropriate new experiences as they grow. We use Early Neurological Stimulation and Puppy Culture principles to help build confident, adaptable puppies who are better prepared for life beyond our home.

They aren’t just growing here—they’re learning about the world they’ll soon be part of.

More Than Choosing a Color—Finding the Right Personality
Every puppy is an individual. As our puppies grow, I spend time watching their confidence, sociability, energy level, and responses to new experiences. At around seven weeks old, I also complete personality testing to give families a better understanding of their puppy’s developing temperament. These observations can help families choose a puppy whose personality is a good fit for their home, lifestyle, experience level, children, and other pets.
The puppy you fall in love with should be a puppy who fits your life, too.
Health Starts Before a Litter Is Born
Raising healthy puppies begins long before a litter is born. Our breeding dogs are health tested so we can make informed breeding decisions with the long-term health of our puppies in mind. We carefully consider the dogs we pair together and take the health and well-being of both our adult dogs and puppies seriously throughout every stage of our breeding program.
Every Great Basin puppy is also backed by our five-year health guarantee, giving our families additional confidence in the puppy they are bringing home.

Healthy puppies begin with thoughtful breeding, responsible testing, and a commitment that continues after your puppy goes home.
You Don’t Have to Miss Them Growing Up
Those first weeks go by incredibly fast, and we want our families to be part of them. Once you’ve chosen your puppy, you’ll receive regular photos, videos, and updates so you can watch your puppy grow, change, and develop while they are still here with us.
By the time go-home day arrives, your puppy won’t feel like a little stranger you’re meeting for the first time. You’ll have watched many of those special early moments and followed their journey as they prepared to become part of your family.

The wait for go-home day should be part of the experience, too.

Our Relationship Doesn’t End at Pickup
Bringing your puppy home is the beginning—not the end—of our relationship with your family. We want you to feel prepared for those first days at home and confident that you have someone to turn to when questions come up.
Before go-home day, we provide information to help you continue the routines your puppy has already started, including feeding, potty training, crate training, vaccinations, grooming, and everyday care. Your puppy also goes home with familiar items, including a blanket carrying the scent of their littermates, to help make the transition into their new home a little easier.
When you choose a Great Basin puppy, you’re gaining a breeder you can continue to turn to long after go-home day.
